How to choose
What to compare when choosing dental insurance verification software
Five questions decide whether a tool takes verification off your front desk or only moves part of it.
- Does it finish the breakdown? Eligibility is a yes or no. A breakdown also needs frequencies, waiting periods, downgrades and history, which often means calling the payer.
- Which channels does it use? Portals and clearinghouses answer much of a breakdown; faxbacks and phone calls fill what they leave out.
- Does it fill your form? A generic report still has to be retyped onto the sheet your team uses.
- Does it write back to your PMS? A result that has to be saved by hand is one more task at the front desk.
- What does it cost at your volume? Per-check pricing grows with the schedule; a flat fee does not.

Answers
Choosing a verification tool: questions
It depends on how much of the job you want done. Pearl Precheck and Overjet focus on fast automated reads; Toothy and Needletail add AI calls with human review; eAssist, Dental ClaimSupport and Verrific’s outsourced tier use people. Ardent works every payer channel including AI calls, fills your own breakdown form and writes it back to your PMS, for a published $849 per practice per month.
Published prices range from per-check rates, such as $9.95 per breakdown at Verrific and $8.25 at Dental ClaimSupport, to monthly fees, such as eAssist’s $260 to $840 per location plus per-check rates, and Ardent’s $849 per practice per month with unlimited verifications. Toothy, Needletail, Pearl and Overjet do not publish a dollar figure.
Outsourcing puts people on the work but usually needs lead time, two to three business days at eAssist and Dental ClaimSupport, and charges per check. Software that runs unattended picks up new bookings on its own. Outsourcing, in-house staff and software compared.
Toothy lists benefits breakdown calls and Needletail lists AI voice calls on their sites. Ardent’s AI voice agent calls the payer’s provider line for anything portals, clearinghouses and faxes leave open, and writes an answer only with a quote from the rep behind it.
Ardent, Toothy, Needletail, Verrific, eAssist and Dental ClaimSupport each describe writing results or a PDF into the PMS. Pearl says Precheck reports are saved into the PMS by hand, and Overjet does not publish the specifics.
