Payers: 71 playbooks, three ways a payer answers
Which dental insurance payers does Ardent verify?
Ardent operates a playbook for each of 71 dental payers, among them 42 Delta Dental member companies, MetLife, Cigna, Aetna, Guardian, UnitedHealthcare Dental, United Concordia, Principal, Ameritas, GEHA, Beam, Humana, Anthem, several Blue Cross Blue Shield dental plans, Lincoln Financial, FEDVIP plans and Medi-Cal Dental. Each playbook works the payer’s own channel in order: the provider portal first, a requested benefits fax where that is how the payer answers, and a recorded phone call for the required blanks still open. A payer Ardent cannot check yet is named as such in the 7:00 AM email, never left silently blank.
- 71 payers, each with its own playbook, worked in the payer’s own channel: portal, benefits fax, or phone.
- Every value keeps its source: a portal record and screenshot, the 271 rows, the fax lines, or the rep’s recorded words.
- A recorded phone call only for required blanks still open, up to two calls, every answer backed by a quote.
- A payer without a playbook is named in the morning email; the office is never left guessing which visits were checked.
How it works
How does Ardent verify benefits with each payer?
Every payer has a playbook and Ardent works it in order. Where the payer has a provider portal, the AI agent signs in with your credentials, reads the benefit grid field by field and keeps the portal record and screenshots. Where a payer answers only by fax, it calls the automated line, requests the benefits fax to your fax line and transcribes what comes back word for word. Anything required that is still blank goes to a recorded phone call to the provider line, and the agent fills a blank only when a quote from the rep backs it. Four payers, four routes to the same filled sheet:
By portal
Delta Dental, MetLife and most large carriers. Ardent signs in with your credentials, reads the benefit grid field by field and keeps the record and screenshots as the source.
Delta Dental, then MetLife →By benefits fax
Where a payer answers by fax, Ardent works the automated line, requests the fax to your fax line and transcribes it word for word, each value citing its fax lines.
Lincoln Financial →By phone
A recorded call to the provider line inside the payer’s hours, through the menu to a live rep, only for the blanks still open, every answer backed by a quote.

Which payers have a playbook?
The payers named on this site are below; the full roster of 71 is shared on the demo call. Each Delta Dental member company counts as its own payer, with its own portal and its own playbook. If your top payers are not named here, ask: a payer without a playbook is named as such in the 7:00 AM email for every appointment it affects, so nothing is silently skipped.

The exceptions
What happens with a payer Ardent has no playbook for?
The appointment is not verified, and the 7:00 AM email says so in plain words: a payer Ardent cannot check yet. The same email names the other reasons a visit could not be verified, a member ID missing, a plan the payer says has ended, a response without enough dental benefit information. On a clean day it is one line saying every appointment had a successful verification.
Portals and retries
What if a payer’s portal is down?
The check is retried rather than pushed. One attempt per run; a portal that is temporarily unavailable is tried again at the next 6:00 AM run, and failures that will clear on their own retry after 6 and 48 hours. In the schedule view on the home page such a visit reads "Retrying" with the reason, and it reaches the 7:00 AM email only if it is still unverified.

Dental payer FAQ
Ardent operates payer-specific playbooks for 71 payers, including 42 Delta Dental member companies, MetLife, Cigna, Aetna, Guardian, UnitedHealthcare Dental, United Concordia, Principal, Ameritas, GEHA, Beam, Humana, Anthem, several Blue Cross Blue Shield dental plans, Lincoln Financial, FEDVIP plans and Medi-Cal Dental. A plan Ardent cannot check yet is named as such in the morning email.
Yes. Ardent operates playbooks for 42 Delta Dental member companies, including Delta Dental of California. It signs into the Delta Dental provider portal with the practice’s credentials, reads the benefit grid field by field, keeps the portal record and screenshots as the source, and phones the provider line only for required blanks the portal leaves open, with each answer backed by a quote from the rep.
No. The phone call is the last channel in a playbook and runs only for required blanks still open after the portal or the fax. When it runs, the agent dials the provider line inside the payer’s business hours, works the menu through to a rep, asks only the open questions, and writes an answer only with a quote from the rep behind it. Up to two calls per run.
Medi-Cal Dental is among the 71 payers with a playbook, alongside GEHA and the FEDVIP plans. Ask about another state’s Medicaid dental program on the demo call; a plan without a playbook is named as such in the morning email rather than left blank.
The next channel in that payer’s playbook runs only for what is still open, ending with a phone call to the payer. If a required blank is still empty afterwards, the sheet leaves it blank, the appointment is flagged "Someone has to call," and it appears in the 7:00 AM email to the front desk.
Yes, for portal automation. Credentials live only for the duration of the call that needs them and never enter a model, a log line or a response; every portal request is limited to that payer’s domain; emailed one-time codes are read from a mailbox you designate; Ardent never solves CAPTCHAs. Payers without a portal are worked by EDI, fax or phone.
